Maintaining and increasing the sustainability of our business is a continuous objective. We currently have a recycling program for our paper, plastic, wood, aluminum and cardboard; require the lumber we use to be from specific North American forests; and our waste is disposed of through an incinerator initiative called :waste-to-Energy” that helps provide power to the local military installation. SCSWORX vendors’ sustainable and responsible practices include participation in the GreenGuard, LEED programs and the Sustainable Forest Initiative. Many of the materials used in production are local materials, several of which are recycled. The laminates are also produced with formaldehyde-free adhesives. The filler paper used in the laminate is provided by a company that is 3rd party certified to the Sustainable Forest initiative. Laminates are GreenGuard Indoor Air Quality Certified under the GreenGuard Standard for Low-Emitting Products.
In addition to using green materials, SCSWORX is able to extend the useful life of an exhibit as a sustainable and cost-saving practice. There are two main ways in which this is done. The first is by designing a fully modular exhibit. This not only permits reconfiguration of the main exhibit into smaller exhibits, but also allows re-arranging of elements within the main exhibit space, giving the exhibit a new and fresh look without construction of new elements. The second way is by refinishing existing exhibit components. Something as simple as re-laminating exhibit elements with a new color, texture, or pattern can drastically change the look of the exhibit with minimal cost and environmental impact. Minimization of our carbon footprint will continue to be a part of our decision making process as we move forward.
